Lost Manners and the importance of self-evaluation.

Hello my people.. Happy new month! As we usher in this new month, we pray for new focus, rejuvenated resolutions, and new mindsets.
On that note, I want to discuss a trend so sadly rampant in this day and age. More especially with my peers and age groups and youth of today.
I don't know if its more widespread here in Abuja where I live or its an upcoming trend of some sort.. but the general disrespect and lack of manners associated with today's generation is appalling and downright disgusting.  Its in the work place, at functions and gatherings, in public, in organizations, schools, places of worship, everywhere! Something about this crop of brood that have been fed with cockiness and too much entitlement we feel we are simply being ourselves or even worse being confident. There is a clear distinction between confidence and cockiness. One can have both confidence and manners without being rude, loud, overbearing and downright stuck-up. There is nothing more distasteful than an uncultured, rude and unmannered woman. Being served manners should not be a privileged but a right.
Humility is a beautiful virtue especially for a woman. We all have bouts when we are less than, but subtle reminders are necessary. It is good to take a inventory at ones' attitude, look in the mirror and reflect. Growth is a necessary process in life. Where we have wronged, attempt to make right. Where we have been less than honest, be true. Where we have been self absorbed, exercise more self control. Whatever your poison, try to get the antidote. There is one for every vice.
A new month ushers in so much hope, clarity and enthusiasm we usually neglect by the end of the first week. Only with regular self-checks can we attempt to be the best versions of ourselves. Lest challenge ourselves to be better. A better me and a better you. Get a buddy to help you keep accountability of yourself. Your bestie, sister, a praying partner in church, any1! Because God sees you but He will not come down from heaven and slap you with a reminder when you err.
I have begun my self evaluation. Will you join me?

  1. lack f confidence is what brews such characteristics thus manifesting in what we perceive as ill mannered! left to them they are unaware that their exhibited attitude is unwelcoming to others. thus I do agree with you that rather than mock them, correction is in order. learning is not a phase, it is a life time assessment of oneself! May we see this through together!!!!
